THE LEGEND OF HAI MOC NHI

UNICEF

Short-form

What if a 12-year-old girl’s superhero became an animated film?

In 2019, UNICEF Vietnam’s “Save the Planet” contest encouraged kids to create superheroes tackling climate change. Nguyen Ngoc Gia Han (12) won 3rd place with Hai Moc Nhi, a hero rooted in Vietnamese mythology.

In 2020, UNICEF partnered with DeeDee Animation Studio to bring Hai Moc Nhi to life. DeeDee embraced the project for its meaningful message about environmental awareness.

The film blends Japanese anime-style animation with Western cartoon coloring. While production faced technical challenges, DeeDee stayed true to Gia Han’s vision, refining her ideas for a clearer audience experience.

"Children are especially affected by pollution. Together, we can create change."
