Home Again, the animated short film by DeeDee Animation Studio, has proudly received the Silver Lotus Award, Best Director, and Best Animator at the 24th Vietnam Film Festival.

Home Again tells the story of a young soldier going to war, carrying with him a heartfelt promise to the one he loves. Aspiring to retell the experiences of earlier generations through the eyes of today’s youth, the DeeDee team crafted the film with a dramatic yet deeply emotional approach. The Silver Lotus Award, together with the 2 individual awards for Director Kiet Doan and Animator Trung Do, serves as an important recognition for our young artists - those who continue to push Vietnamese animation forward with passion, creativity, and dedication.

To authentically portray Vietnam in the late 20th century, DeeDee Animation Studio chose to animate the film entirely by hand-drawn. Although this technique requires immense time and effort, it brings expressive, tactile movement and emotional depth to every frame. Each drawing was crafted with care to convey the characters’ inner journeys and key dramatic moments.

Alongside the hand-drawn animation, the background art was created using a visual style inspired by gouache illustrations. This approach offers a warm, nostalgic sense of depth, evoking the unique textures and atmosphere of Vietnam in earlier decades.

Before participating in the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, Home Again has released its teaser in September 2025 and quickly gained attention for its refined art style and interesting storyline. The project also marks DeeDee Animation Studio’s return to the festival circuit following the Jury Award for Broken Being: The Prequel at the 21st Vietnam Film Festival.

The achievements of Home Again is a meaningful recognition of DeeDee Animation Studio’s commitment to high quality Vietnamese animation.
